2012 Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Spyder Performante ? Auto Shows

The Superleggera treatment for the open-top Gallardo.
Most people who drive the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Spyder invariably come away depressed, thinking the same thing: With 552 hp, a 0-to-60-mph time of about 3.5 seconds, and a claimed top speed of 201 mph, this thing is too damned slow. Lamborghini gets it. Although public attention is focused [...]

Four drivers will enter five classes under the Innisfil Indy banner seeking SKUSA SuperNationals glory

Innisfil, ON ? The Innisfil Indy/GP Karts racing team will hit the road in November. Four drivers along with family, friends and crewmembers will travel to Las Vegas, Nevada, USA to compete in this years SKUSA SuperNationals XIV. The SuperNationals is the largest karting event in North America and drives entries from around the globe. The International field will converge at the RIO All Suites Hotel and Casino from November 17 to 21 to race on a temporary track layout in the rear parking lot of the RIO.

Leading the attack for the Innisifil Indy team, 2010 Brian Stewart Racing Karting Championship F125 Shifter Champion Zack Meyer will enter the headline class of KZ2. Last year, this class attracted many Formula One drivers and professionals? karters from around the world, and this year the class is once again stacked full of some of the worlds best shifter kart pilots.

?It?s Vegas, what more can I say,? commented Innisfil Indy?s Frank Launi. ?This is the best of the best event, held in the perfect place. I know my drivers will perform, and with my brother providing them with the best engines, we should do very well.?

Joining him in KZ2 will be BSRKC third-place finisher Josh Adams who is making the switch to a GP chassis for the SuperNationals. Adams will pull double-duty, as he will also compete in S2, a Semi-Pro Stock-Moto shifter class.

?I?m really excited about the group of guys we have going this year,? smiled Launi. ?Zack just returned from Italy after doing two races over there and is now ready to rock in Vegas.?

A third driver from the Innisfil Indy stable will also compete in the KZ2 class as Kristian Jeffrey from Guyana will return to his familiar GP Kart. Jeffrey also raced this year in the BSRKC and showed some impressive speed all season long.

All of the shifter engines have been prepared in-house by Joe Launi. Launi has worked closely with Meyer over the past few seasons and the duo, along with Adams and Jeffrey are ready to take on the world in Las Vegas.

Finally, the team is completed with Junior pilot Chad Campbell. Campbell makes the switch from his usual Rotax Junior machine to a TaG Junior Leopard powered GP Kart. Racing in the BSRKC as well as at the Innisifil Kart Club, Campbell makes his first start outside of Canada and is looking forward to the challenge.

?I?ve worked with Chad for the past month or so and he has shown great improvement. This is his first big race, but he is still expecting to do well,? Continued Frank.

RJ SAYS: Supercross, on four wheels

It was going to be a good idea. Key word being 'was'. It was going to be a good idea!

My idea was to show you what the truck racing series that I promote and race in is like. It's like Supercross, only on four wheels!

So, my plan was simple - I'd invite my good friend Lex out to the finale of the Traxxis TORC series in Las Vegas, we'd mount a camera on the hood of my race truck, and I'd show you just how rough the racing is. It would be me (a former 2 time AMA Supercross Champion) and Jeremy McGrath (best Supercross rider in history!) showing you supercross - on four wheels!

It is rough. Very rough. We bump, grind, rub, and run into each other. It's 'no-holds-barred' racing. Trucks get abused & trashed. Not only that, but the roost of dirt, mud, rocks, and @#$% that comes up in your face following another 900 horsepower truck is ... ballistic.

OK, ... the key word was "was". Lex was confident the camera he put on the hood of my truck would stay on the hood, and we'd have some great video action from practice to show you just how cool TORC is (The Off Road Championship - website http://www.torcseries.com - that's where you can see all the results from the series and more info).

I asked him again. "Are you sure that camera is going to stay mounted?" And his very confident reply was "Yeah, ... uhhhhh .... well .... I think so. Uhhh ..... I hung it up on the door of my office and hung from it. It stayed mounted there. But .... uhhhhh ..... yeah, I think it will stay mounted."

Yeah, right! It didn't stay mounted.

Last time I saw Lex, he was walking around the track looking for his camera. For about 2 hours. In the mud.

One thing I know for sure ... that camera is now part of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Dirt Track.

So, guess what you get to see instead of that cool footage? You get to see a few photos, and a quick video of the race from Friday night. I'm number 48 in the Red Bull truck, and Jeremy is number 2 in the Monster truck. See more below. And come out to a TORC event next year! You'll have a great time!

RJ

Here is the grand experiment - camera is mounted on my truck's hood. Ready to go. But not for long!

Jeremy McGrath inside his truck. Ready to go out and roost!

That's me in practice. If you look closely, you'll see the camera is actually still on the hood! Racing these trucks is very much like supercross, except we have an extra 2 wheels, and an extra 850 horsepower.

Jeremy getting some air over one of the jumps

Jeremy leading me in Friday night's main event.

Jeremy McGrath

That's me getting a little air over one of the jumps on the course

In this video is this corner where the mud on top was incredibly slick. So we couldn't accelerate like we wanted to, or we'd slide right into the wall. I'm number 48 in the Red Bull truck and Jeremy is number 2 in the Monster truck.

Turner/Enge win Interlagos race one

Young Driver Aston Martin duo Darren Turner and Tomas Enge maintained their slender GT1 World Championship title hopes by winning the Interlagos qualification race. Turner had pressured Xandi Negrao in the polesitting Vitaphone Maserati throughout the first stint, and then the Young Driver squad vaulted its car ahead as the two leaders pitted in unison just before half-distance. Enge was subsequently able to edge away from Negrao's team-mate Enrique Bernoldi even before the Brazilian was given a late drive-through penalty for a pit procedure infringement - a crew member having thrown a tyre back into the garage during the stop rather than carrying it as the rules stipulate.

Larissa Papenmeier Blog

2009 FIM Women's World Championship runner-up Larissa Papenmeier can perhaps rightfully claim to be Suzuki's fastest female motorcycle racer. The petite German runs the number 2 plate on her Teka Suzuki Europe World MX2 RM-Z250 and has taken two podium results from four rounds of the seven in the 2010 contest.

Courtesy Suzuki

"I had a slow speed crash about one month before the World Championship started at Sevlievo in Bulgaria - the same place that the MX1 and MX2 series' was beginning. It was a silly fall but I broke a bone in my hand and it was a bit of a setback. I carried on riding, and doing the training that I could before going to Bulgaria. In a way the injury helped with my nerves for the race! Obviously I wanted to be 100%, but I went to the GP with little expectations and wanting just to get points. I scored 6th place which was reasonable in the circumstances.

"We had about a month then before our second round and where we would be joining the boys again at Agueda for the Grand Prix of Portugal. I was getting stronger and carried on my training and found time to finish second behind world champion Steffi Laier in the German Championship. Steffi is currently the fastest rider at the GPs but I know that I - and a good few others - are working as hard as we can to catch up and beat her. Germany is well represented in the world championship in which we are competing for the third time now as it began in 2008, for the two years before that it was a World Cup competition. It means that we have a strong national series and that is only good for the future of women's racing in our country as more people can see what we are doing and maybe more girls will decide to come and have a go.

Giebler Racing At SKUSA SuperNats

Owner/driver Phil Giebler leads a nine-driver Phil Giebler Racing entry this week (Nov. 17-21) in the prestigious Superkarts! USA SuperNationals on the temporary course at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nev.

Giebler, of Huntington Beach, Calif., has a commanding lead in TaG Senior going into the third and final round of the inaugural SKUSA Pro Tour championship. The 2007 Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year has three victories and a third place in the four main events this year.

Giebler will have three teammates TaG Senior in Lloyd Mack, of Beaumont, Calif., Shawn Cricca, of Simi Valley, Calif., and Jess Peterson, of Sparks, Nev. The class has 84 entries including 2005 Indy 500 champion Dan Wheldon, Grand-Am Daytona Prototype sports car drivers Michael Valiante and Oswaldo Negri, Indy Lights driver Joel Miller and international karting stars Gustavo Menezes of California and Emanuele Pagani of Italy.

Mason Daughters, of Polo, Mo., and Juan Diego Maldonado, of Bogota, Colombia, are entered in TaG Junior, Noah Grey, of Dana Point, Calif., and Tate Holleran, of Denver, are in TaG Cadet and Steve Wiener, of Chula Vista, Calif., is in TaG Master.

Grey and Holleran are in contention for the TaG Cadet championship. They each have a main event win this season and are in a close battle with leader Colton Herta, son of former IndyCar driver Bryan Herta.

There are 57 entries in TaG Junior, 45 in TaG Master and 41 in TaG Cadet.

?All of our drivers will be facing the deepest and fastest competition of the season,? Giebler said. ?We?re up to the challenge. Qualifying will be very important because it establishes your starting position for the heat races and points accumulated in the heat races will determine where you start in
the main.

?We only have one main event in the SuperNationals and with 40 karts in them, you need a decent starting position to do well. We have a strong team and great equipment and we expect to have good results. It would be a tremendous accomplishment for any of our drivers to stand on the podium in a field that is virtually a ?who?s who? of American karting.?

Phil Giebler Racing, based in Orange, Calif., uses FA Karts powered by 125cc water-cooled Vortex Racing engines built by Daniel Patino?s D-Power Engines, of Huntington Beach, Calif., in TaG Senior, TaG Junior and TaG Master. Grey and Holleran also have FA Karts and are powered by 60cc Vortex MiniRok engines. The entire PGR team will race on MG Tires.

The SuperNationals begins with practice on Wednesday and Thursday, with qualifying and heat races on Friday, heat races on Saturday and last-chance qualifying heats and main events on Sunday. There are a record 485 entries in the 11 classes.

SUPERKARTS! USA 2011 PRO TOUR UPDATE

Tucson and Grand Junction facilities confirmed for SpringNats and SummerNats

TEMECULA, CA ? The 14th annual Superkarts! USA SuperNationals may be just a day away, but this doesn?t mean that the growing organization isn?t still looking into the future and its 2011 Pro Tour. SKUSA released the schedule for the second edition of the program back in early September and can now confirm the venues that will play host to the SpringNationals and SummerNationals. The program?s top pilots will kick things off at the amazing P1 Kart Circuit in Tucson, Arizona in late April during the SpringNats and will then head to Grand Junction Motor Speedway for the SummerNats in mid-July. Of course, the Pro Tour will wrap up in Las Vegas, Nevada for the historic 15th running of the wildly-popular SuperNationals.

?We?ve been working on the 2011 schedule and the venues for a couple of months, and in the end, our focus centered on bringing our program to new regions of the country so that we could both grow the Superkarts! USA brand and support the racers who are part of the SKUSA community,? offers Tom Kutscher, the organization?s leader. ?Last year, we were in Northern California and Wisconsin to support the Pro Kart Challenge North and Central States Challenge programs. This time around, I wanted to get into Colorado for the SummerNationals to show our appreciation to the racers who are part of our Mountain Region. Our decision to start the season in Tucson was helped by the fact that it?s centrally located to make the trip manageable for drivers from California, Texas, Oklahoma, Utah and Colorado. The fact that both venues are incredible tracks is the icing on the cake!?

Despite the fact that this week?s SuperNationals in Las Vegas has consumed much of SKUSA?s focus over the last few months, Kutscher has also been working to build the momentum for next April?s SpringNationals in Tucson. The P1 Kart Circuit is a stellar layout, the racing will be fierce and the racers will no doubt be raving about the track when they leave. Just as was the case with last year?s Pro Tour events, SKUSA is focused on making the SpringNationals an event that can stand alone as a great experience for series competitors and local racers alike. The race is scheduled for April 29 ? May 1 and will include a Thursday Night Welcome Party, a mid-week Pro Tour golf outing, a Friday night BBQ and loads of track time. In addition, SKUSA has confirmed that eKartingNews.com will also be streaming a live audio broadcast of the event, as it will for all three of the Pro Tour stops in 2011.

The height of the summer season will see the Pro Tour make its debut in Colorado at the amazing Grand Junction Motor Speedway on July 15-17. Once again, the location is centrally located for a majority of SKUSA?s racers and the crew will roll of the same event package as Tucson, all focused on making the race a great experience for everyone involved.

The 15th annual SuperNationals will once again anchor the Pro Tour schedule next fall, bringing SKUSA?s finest racers to the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas for the biggest race in North American karting on November 16-20, 2011. This race has exploded over the past two years, and SKUSA?s constant focus on improvement has made each event a new benchmark for American kart racing competition. This year?s race features almost 500 entries and over $70,000 in purses and prizes, both numbers that SKUSA will be focused on increasing in 2011.

The following is the official schedule for the 2011 Superkarts! USA Pro Tour:

Date Event Track Location
April 29-May 1: SpringNationals P1 Kart Circuit Raceway Tucson, AZ
July 15-17: SummerNationals Grand Junction Motor Speedway Grand Junction, CO
Nov. 16-20: SuperNationals Rio All-Suites Hotel and Casino Las Vegas, NV

SKUSA is currently developing many marketing and sponsorship program centered on the 2011 Pro Tour, and any interested companies are asked to contact the SKUSA office directly. Team owners planning on being part of the Pro Tour are also asked to contact SKUSA as a new team support program is in the works to make the series a financial success for everyone.

2012 BMW 1 Series First Photos

A little under two months remaining before German manufacturer BMW pulls the wraps off the new generation 1 Series, reportedly at the Detroit Auto Show in January, and here are the first images showing both the convertible and the coupe versions.

Snapped during a photo shoot of the car, the photos depict a changed face for the 1 Series. Not an extensively changed one, but one which, for all intents and purposes, screams new. The next generation 1 Series gets redesigned headlights and tail lig...

2011 Kia Optima Priced from $19,690, $225 Less Than Hyundai Sonata

The 2011 Kia Optima will arrive in dealerships priced from as little as $19,690, which is $225 cheaper than the entry-level Hyundai Sonata. Given how much we like the 2011 Sonata, this sounds like a great bargain, since the new Optima is essentially a Sonata with different skin, the same engines and mechanical bits, and [...]

The Oldest Mercedes on the Road in SoCal?

The Oldest Mercedes on the Road in SoCal?

We might just have found the oldest unrestored Mercedes still road-worthy. And we found it right here at Cars and Coffee in Irvine, California. It's a 1912 Mercedes 3795, with jaw-dropping brushed aluminium sides. It predates the merger of Mercedes with Benz by more than a decade! Approximately the size of the Gadsen Purchase, this rare horseless carriage could seat a rugby team, is chain-driven with a radiator the size of a ship's prow, and a four-cylinder racing motor. You gotta see this to believe it just as our very own Morgan Patrick did. She also had the chance to ask Mike Koontz of Mercedes Classics Center all about.

MX ADVENTURES: RC update, Breast Cancer & Supercross, Matt Goerke interview

For all you Ricky Carmichael fans who still love and miss the guy, you can still be active in Ricky's four wheel career. I hear there's an online poll for the 2009 Most Popular Driver of the Year Award for the Nationwide / Camping World Truck Series, and RC is on that list, so go cast your votes at their web site: http://www.nascar.com

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. But Feld Motorsports, and their Supercross race at Anaheim February 13, 2010 will help with Breast Cancer awareness as well. Wear pink for that race folks! Anaheim 3 Supercross is going PINK! (I expect everyone to be wearing at least somethink pink : ) Click here for more info.

As every year, different riders come into the Premier Supercross class. 2010 is no different. One guy who rode the East Coast 250 Lites class for the past few years will finally make his debut into the 450 Supercross Class in 2010 - Matt Goerke will line up with a 450 Yamaha this upcoming season, and I have an interview with him below.

Matt will be on the MotoConcepts Racing Team - his team-mates will be Jeff Alessi, Dan Reardon, Ryan Sipes and Vince Freise.

Interview: Matt Goerke

Angela: Congratulations on a good ending to your 2009 AMA Motocross season. You've ridden Suzuki's in the past, and then towards the end of the season you got a temporary Factory ride with Yamaha. How was that experience and did you learn anything?

Matt: It was awesome. I got on the Yamaha and it was so fast and the suspension was so good. Right away at the first race I was getting the quickest lap times, but I also crashed a lot. By the second race I was on the podium, and by the third race I had won my first 450 race, so it was awesome.

Angela: You won round 11 at Southwick. Amazing!

Matt: Thanks. Yeah, it was such a good feeling. I had a crash in the first moto and finished 6th. In the second moto I had the last gate pick because I missed my original gate pick. I actually had the second gate pick, but I missed it because the officials said I was late to the gate. I had to start all the way to the outside, but I came out with a decent start, caught up to the leaders, and actually won the race. I was so pumped that I won the race .... and then I realized I had the overall on the day. It was awesome!

Angela: You actually finished 12th for the series, yet you missed three races in the middle of the series because of a broken leg, what happened?

Matt: It's not bad, considering I missed those races after breaking my leg. It happened at Freestone (Texas) in the first moto. I was in fifth or sixth and was going down the big straight away. I caught my leg in a rut and it just twisted and broke. I didn't fall ... but I felt it break. I took a few weeks off, then I came back at Spring Creek (Minnesota) and was ready to go again.

Angela: Approximately two months from the start of 2010 Supercross. Your thoughts?

Matt: I am going to be riding for MotoConcepts Racing Yamaha, and it really seems like things are going to be good this coming year. I also like this team because Steve Lamson is the Team Manager, and I've worked with him before on KTM. He taught me quite a bit so I am looking forward to working with him again. It should be good and I will be on the new 2010 Yamaha YZ 450, so that is great.

Angela: One of the biggest changes for you is you have been racing the East Coast Lites in supercross, and now you are moving up to
the 450 Supercross class.

Matt: Yes, I will be riding the 450 all year. That's going to be a big difference, and I am pumped because I believe I ride the 450 much better. I haven't had much time riding it in supercross except for a little bit at the US Open, and I only rode for a week before that. But I think I am going to do good.

Angela:With all that East Coast Lites time, you really haven't rode too many west coast supercross tracks. What will that be like for you?

Matt: I think I will be alright. I will be out in California for a month before the racing starts up, so I will have time to get comfortable and ready for whatever comes my way. Plus I always ride at Las Vegas, and that is considered a 'west coast' track, and I always do good there.

Angela: One other big difference is that a regional Lites supercross series only has seven or eight races, where as the 450 Supercross class usually has 16 or 17. That's a lot more rounds of racing!

Matt: Yeah, I got a lot more chances to do good! LOL

Angela: I like that attitude! OK, Supercross is right around the corner. You are from Florida and your team is on the West Coast. What's the preparation & practice schedule like right now?

Matt: I train and practice at home in Florida, and I will be going out to California soon to get to riding on that 2010 Yamaha YZ 450.

Angela: The MotoConcepts Racing Yamaha Team seems like a good deal for you. Have you worked with any of the other riders and when did you get everything finalized with the team?

Matt: I haven't worked before with any of our riders. I've only worked with Steve Lamson. We had our deal worked out before the end of the season. My friend Shane Yagen, who is also my agent, talked to them. It worked out good, and I had already signed the deal before I even got on the Factory Yamaha and did those last few National Motocross races. I am pumped because it seems with this rough economy it's really hard to get a ride right now.

Angela: I am excited to hear you are going to be riding in that Supercross class. It's going to be a good season. Thank you very much for your time Matt!

Matt: Yeah, it's going to be good. Thank you too.

As more information and details about your favorite racers comes my way I will be sure to get it out ASAP!
