Leading the Pack
Looking to build on double wins from the Orlando weekend are KZ2’s Zachery Meyer, Craig Duerson in Masters Shifter, and TaG Junior standout Austin Self. As one would expect, these three are leading the points in their respective classes. Also leading the points in their divisions are Alessandra Madrigal in TaG Senior, Devlin DeFrancesco in TaG Cadet, Vicki Brian Hager in Stock Shifter and Brad Sanders in TaG Masters/Heavy.
By leading the points in TaG Junior and TaG Senior, as well as having strong runs during the Rotax MAX Challenge portion of the Orlando FWT events, Austin Self and Alessandra Madrigal have put themselves in excellent position to secure a portion of the $50,000 FWT/Skip Barber Racing Series “Doin’ The Double” award. This unprecedented awards program provides FWT kart racers an opportunity to race Skip Barber racing cars. More information on the program can be found at http://www.floridawintertour.com/news/59-2011/258-2011-fwt-skip-barber-awards-program.html.
The January rounds of the Formula Kart Championship featured some big names from motorsport. Highlighting the entry list were names such as current Williams Formula One driver Rubens Barrichello and NASCAR star A. J. Allmendinger. For the PBIR round, some of the fastest drivers in karting continue to look to the Formula Kart championship for the best competition. Evidence of this is the recent entry of Rotax MAX Senior star Daniel Formal in the KZ2 class for West Palm Beach.
Perhaps the most action, and for sure the most entries, continues to be in the Formula Vortex TaG Cadet class. With two dozen entries in Orlando, many racing because of the DFR/FWT Cadet Scholarship Program, this class provides wheel-to-wheel action wherever you look. These young racers never fail to put on a good show and there’s no doubt they’re building a very bright future in karting.
Leading the Way
Thanks to continued support from DeFrancesco Racing and RDD Motorsports the Florida Winter Tour continues to lead the way in safety and fan experience. Back for round two after rave reviews during its debut in the MAX Challenge portion of the Orlando FWT weekends is the new safety light marshalling system from Tracksa. The new lighting system is a tremendous improvement in safety for both drivers and corner works alike as the remote-operated system raises awareness of any issues that may arise on the racing surface. Formula Kart Productions will be holding two product seminars during the Palm Beach event weekends showcasing this innovative safety system. For more information contact Bill Wright atinfo@formulakart.com.
Anyone breaching the regulations during the racing starts found out the hard way just how good the new FKP video marshaling system is working. The number of penalties on Saturday were a testament to its abilities. This 16 channel system allows officials to review on track action instantly. By Sunday the competitors had adjusted and the number of penalties, and therefore on track incidents, was greatly reduced.
For racing fan’s that can’t attend the West Palm Beach weekend, nothing beats the Florida Winter Tour’s industry leading race coverage on FWT Live! (http://www.floridawintertour.com/fwtlive/2011/). FWT Live provides fans with live streaming video, live timing and an interactive blog. At the Orlando event, over 33,000 unique IP addresses logged in and over 11,000 bloggers chimed in over the two weekends.
Reviews of the expanded, 10 camera FWT Live coverage from the Orlando weekend were off the chart. Everyone loved the addition of the new cameras for the 2011 season. Many claimed the video feed rivaled their Hi-Definition service from their cable provider. Of course, FWT Live! is more than great images. Returning for the PBIR events is the world’s top-rated kart racing announcer, Ken Walker. Ken’s speaking style and knowledge of our great sport is always a fantastic addition to the Florida Winter Tour experience.
The Florida Winter Tour is the place to be
While many parts of the country are still going through a cold spell, the weather in Florida is expected to be warm through the FWT Formula Kart weekend. Of course, weather conditions can change but the one thing guaranteed to be hot is the action on the track during the Formula Kart weekend.
For those attending both weekends in West Palm Beach, there’s always something fun for the family to do in the week between events. The area is known for its wildlife sanctuaries, museums, restaurants and parks. In addition, like most of Florida, you’re never far from a beautiful beach location. These are just some of the reasons the Florida Winter Tour appeals to the entire family, not just those that are here to race.
Those that have attended FWT events in the past know how much Formula Kart Promotions President Bill Wright and his entire staff put into running a first class event. For those that haven’t yet experienced the Florida Winter Tour, we hope you will make the trip to West Palm Beach or Ocala later this year to compete, or just check out the action. We’d love to see you here, and know you’ll want to come back for more.
