ANTHONY GANGI JR. PODIUMS IN RETURN TRIP TO SUPERNATS

G7 Motorsport backs up strong 2010 performance with a podium finish in TaG Cadet to close out the 2011 season in style
Brookville, NY - The G7 Motorsport Team, along with team driver Anthony Gangi Jr., proved that their strong run at the 2010 SuperNats was no fluke. This past weekend the SuperKarts! USA SuperNationals XV hit the temporary karting circuit at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino parking lot with a full field of 81 Vortex Mini Rok drivers in the TaG Cadet class. Anthony Jr.'s A Main pole position from one year ago was followed up this year with a third place finish in a red flag shortened Feature Race. This SuperSunday was another hard fought battle with Gangi Jr. starting from inside row four and looking to hit the podium before the checkered flag flew. Making up ground early, Gangi Jr. held onto his third place spot in the two-lap shootout to earn a trip to the podium. The Mike Doty Racing prepared Hasse cadet kart was solid all weekend as Gangi Jr. strung together a series of solid heat races and an excellent A Main Feature race. Making the A Main feature was a feat in itself with just 40 karts making the SuperSunday Feature and the rest heading home after the LCQ.
"We are really happy to be on the podium. Last year was a heartbreaker being on pole for the main and then getting spun out early," comments Anthony Gangi Sr. "Anthony Jr. did an excellent job running three solid heat races to keep himself in contention. He and Chris (Perez) did a nice job getting the kart ready to rock for the final. Mike Rameraz did a really nice job on the engines. We had excellent power all weekend. This was a great way to cap off the 2011 season."
A disappointing qualifying effort had Gangi Jr. sitting 16th quickest after the two groups were combined. That result would give him a starting spot on row eight for all three heat races. Heat one was a solid run with Gangi Jr. taking fifth at the line to start off the critical heat races with a nice finish. Heat two saw Gangi Jr. tied up in traffic with seventh the best he could muster at the line. The third heat was another good run with Anthony Jr. running patient and taking another top five finish with fifth place at the stripe. The combination of heat race finishes earned him a seventh place start for the A Main.
With a full field on a temporary track everyone knew that A Main race would be good. After two attempts to start the race the field went green on the third try with the front staying clean in the opening corners. Gangi Jr. slipped into the sixth spot and looked to gain more as the race moved on. Getting up to fifth on lap six the track was red flagged for an injured driver. After a 40-minute delay the TaG Cadet class was issued a green/white/checkered two-lap shootout. Gangi quickly went to work staying clear of problems and diving into the third spot that he held for the final lap. At the line it was Gangi Jr. making a nice run up five spots in the shortened Feature to take third place and a trip to the podium.
"It was a great week of racing. I really tried hard to stay out of trouble and score some good finishes," comments Gangi Jr. "I really wanted to do better than last year. The final was crazy especially with the two-lap shootout. Getting third place was great. I can't thank my tuner Chris enough for all of his hard work. I also want to thank Mike Doty for all his hard work and excellent driver coaching.
