ROCK ISLAND PURSE FOR 2011

Race Offers $4,000 to win and almost $7,000 purse for Yamaha SuperCan Medium racers

ROCK ISLAND, IL – The Rock Island Grand Prix has announced a large purse of almost $7,000 will be paid to the Yamaha SuperCan Medium class at this year’s event. This is a one-time opportunity for 2011 only, so don’t miss out on the excitement!

The driver who finishes first in the 2011 Yamaha SuperCan Medium race will take home $4,000 and the field will compete for a total guaranteed payout of $6,800 ! The purse will be distributed throughout the field.

Second place will pay $1,000 with third place earning $750. Additional places through ninth place will pay the same as other Rock Island Grand Prix classes except that payouts are guaranteed regardless of the number of entries.

The Rock Island Grand Prix, sponsored by AT&T, will be held Sept. 3-4, 2011.

In addition, the driver who gains the most positions during the race (minimum of 5) will receive a check for $200. The driver leading at the halfway point of the race will win $100 and the driver who qualifies on the poll will win $100.

“Yamaha racing has long been one of the cornerstones upon which U.S. karting has been built. We hope this year’s race will provide an incentive for many Yamaha competitors to bring their karts to Rock Island and for others to find a Yamaha ride for the weekend,” said Roger Ruthhart, president of the Rock Island Grand Prix.

Yamaha SuperCan competitors will also be able to compete in the Yamaha SuperCan Heavy class which will have the normal Rock Island Grand Prix payout with $500 to win.

“We hope that this large payout will encourage all Yamaha drivers and teams to put Rock Island on their racing calendar, come and enjoy our truly unique festival experience and take home a big chunk of our money,” said Ruthhart.

If necessary, a Last Chance Qualifier will be held to give drivers a chance to win their way into the field for the Yamaha SuperCan Medium feature. WKA Manufacturer’s Cup rules will apply. Tire brand and compounds will be open but spec fuel and oils have been designated in the Supplemental Rules.

The full Rock Island Grand Prix 2011 race program will be announced soon. Registration will open later this month.
