1st Annual Winter Ice Breaker

By Robert Henderson
Jacksonville's North Florida Kart Club is hosting the VKA at the 1st Annual " Winter Ice Breaker " January 26-28th. It will be held at the 103rd Sports Complex. Thursday will be testing, tuning and practice. Friday - More practice and the qualifers will be run. To end the day a BBQ For the entrants and a swap meet for all will be had. Saturday - Finals and awards ceremony.
The track and karts are both from the vintage era. Jacksonville 's track was built in the 60's as were alot of the karts seen running today. There are even several models of the " Puttnik" built in Washington, Ga. John McCorvey "the puttnik dude" is real proud of his stable of karts
A Clinton kart is another oldie but goodie. Boy that thing makes me feel old. I remember 5th porting that engine with 1/2" copper tubing and Devcon puddy. Really fast except they threw a rod every few races. I was just a kid then, but that's another story.
I had the chance to ask Lake Speed if he would be coming down for the event, and it sounds as if he will be attending. Hopefully a couple of twin engine C- Super class karts will make the trip with him. It should be a great week for everyone!
