If there's one thing people in L.A. like, it's their SUVs. Big SUVs. Big SUVs with Big Bling. Not exactly the greenest choice of vehicle out there. Not, at least, until this year's Los Angeles Auto Show. The 2007 show was all about how consumers can have their big vehicles, and fuel efficiency too. Fitting comfortably into that category, and still towing over 6,000 pounds is the new Chevy Silverado Hybrid Pickup Truck.

Valentino Rossi will be faithful to the Ducati

Beritai.com – the latest news from MotoGP race of 2012 which we summarized Auto Sports magazine and we present beritai, Valentino Rossi recently was widely rumored Ducati is planning to leave after making a statement that he was disappointed by the performance of the motorcycle Desmosedici GP12 Qatar MotoGP bad.

The Italian rider had a bad race at the Qatar GP last week and could only finish in 10th position. Nine-time world champion and even then expressed his disappointment over the media, saying that the problems have not gone his bike and his request was not met by Ducati.

The comments of speculation about the disappointment of this raises the issue that Rossi will leave the Ducati, but he was denied the issue even though he was ‘suffering’ and are not happy with the situation now.

“I was not able to race with the maximum, while the other riders getting stronger. I still want to win races and I ‘suffer’ when we (Ducati) are very far behind,” said Rossi.

“I will stay at Ducati. We will do everything we can to make a successful combination of Rossi-Ducati. We will strive in every series and will not give up,” he concluded.

NASCAR-CUP: Greg Biffle snaps winless streak at Texas

Greg Biffle drove his No. 16 Roush Fenway Ford past the No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet of Jimmie Johnson with 31 laps remaining in the Samsung Mobile 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway on Saturday night and drove away from the rest of the race field to claim his first win since 2010 and the first-career Sprint Cup victory for crew chief Matt Puccia.

After dominating most of the latter two-thirds of the 334-lap race, Johnson finished second. Mark Martin was third in the No. 55 Michael Waltrip Racing Toyota.

"I'm definitely disappointed," Johnson said of dominating so much of the race before losing the lead to Biffle late in the going. "But we had a great race car. I'm very proud of the effort."

I knew the team would forgive me if I wrecked it trying to beat him, so I just gave it all I had.

Greg Biffle

After starting third, Biffle got by pole sitter Martin Truex Jr. in the No. 56 Michael Waltrip Racing Chevrolet just past lap 30. Biffle remained in the top spot until a cycle of green flag pit stops began on lap 47. After the cycle completed, Biffle was back up front. He lost the lead to Truex, though, when Truex beat him off pit road during the first caution of the race that came out for debris on lap 67.

Biffle drove back to the lead on lap 73 but was passed by RFR teammate Matt Kenseth in the No. 17 Ford on lap 83.

Truex inherited the lead again by getting off pit road first when the second and final caution of the race came out when the No. 21 Wood Brothers Racing Ford of Trevor Bayne hit the wall on lap 95.

That lead was short-lived, though, as both Biffle and Johnson got by him on the restart to claim the top-two positions in the running order. Johnson took the lead for the first time in the race when he passed Biffle in lap 114.

Johnson then began to pull away, but after being one of the final drivers to pit during another cycle of green flag stops that began on lap 141, he wound up losing several positions during the cycle to drivers who pitted laps earlier and had the advantage of fresher rubber before Johnson.

By lap 180 Johnson made his way back up to the lead and maintained the top spot until being passed by Biffle with 31 to go, with the exception of laps during three additional cycles of green-flag stops. Instead of pitting late in the cycle like he had done earlier, Johnson pitted with the other front runners for the last three stops and each time, cycled back around to the lead.

"Our pit stops were amazing," Johnson said.

Once Biffle took the lead for good late in the race, he began to pull away from Johnson.

"I just dug deep," Biffle said of his late-race pass. "I knew I had to do it, and I kept trying and trying and trying. I knew the team would forgive me if I wrecked it trying to beat him, so I just gave it all I had."

Johnson then lost even more ground to Biffle when he scraped the wall with 15 laps to go, enabling Biffle to pull out to a lead of more than three seconds. Despite the contact with the wall, Johnson maintained second position, having a five-second lead on third place driver Martin.

Jeff Gordon methodically made his way toward the front after starting the race near the back to finish fourth, and Kenseth rounded out the top-five.

"We ran pretty good in the beginning," Kenseth said. "There were a couple of runs that I was better than Greg and passed him and I could see he was loose. He got his car fixed and we could never fix ours."

Truex was sixth, Kasey Kahne finished seventh in the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet, Carl Edwards was eighth in the No. 99 Roush Fenway Racing Ford, Kevin Harvick was ninth in the No. 29 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. finished 10th in the No. 88 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet.

The deal is done – Audi just bought Ducati

Audi has released a statement confirming its purchase of thoroughbred Italian motorcycle maker Ducati, in a deal that is thought to be worth €860 million ($1.12 billion). The transaction will be now completed as quickly as possible once authorised by the competition authorities.

The Supervisory Boards of AUDI AG and Volkswagen AG approved the acquisition today in Hamburg, with Ducati soon to become the third Italian brand in Audi’s arsenal – joining Lamborghini and Italdesign.

If you’re wondering what possible synergies there are between Ducati and Audi, then you’re not alone.

Audi’s spokesperson talked about “..the progressive control systems and special combustion chamber process of Ducati engines, plus Ducati’s extensive know-how in lightweight construction offer great potential for AUDI AG and the Volkswagen Group.”

However most people see this as a ‘trophy purchase’ by VW chairman Ferdinand Piech, who has long wished to own the superbike maker and famously said that he wished he’d bought Ducati in 1985 when it cost “peanuts”.

Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Audi AG, said this morning: “Ducati is known worldwide as a premium brand among motorcycle manufacturers and has a long tradition of building sporty motorcycles. It has great expertise in high-performance engines and lightweight construction, and is one of the world’s most profitable motorcycle manufacturers. That makes Ducati an excellent fit for Audi.”

Ducati produces around 40,000 bikes per year, generating revenues of €480 million from a staff of 1,100 employees. The deal includes Ducati’s debts, which are estimated at around €200 million.

The company was founded by Adriano and Marcello Ducati in Bologna in 1926. Known originally as Società Scientifica Radiobrevetti Ducati, it initially built parts for radios.

It ventured into the manufacture of motorcycles in 1949 and now produces a full range of cruiser, supermoto, adventure, naked and superbikes.

Ducati has been actively involved in motorcycle racing for many decades through its racing division Ducati Corse, most notably in the MotoGP. Two-time world champion Casey Stoner delivered Ducati’s first MotoGP world championship, whilst current riders Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden are seeking to add to Stoner’s scorecard.

First off, I want to congratulate KTM, Roger De Coster, and Ryan Dungey for KTM's first Supercross Class main event win. It's huge. The track map for the ninth annual MMSX taking place inside the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas on the Sunday following the Monster Energy Supercross finals also reveals a starting gate located outside the arena. This will leave more space on the arena floor for the rest of the track. And instead of watching the action, almost anybody can get out on the track to experience it firsthand.

RJ Says - Supercross Safety 2012

Anyone who saw what happened with Trey Canard and Ryan Morais at Dodger Stadium Saturday night knows that it was a horrendous crash. Nobody likes to see that. Unfortunately that’s part of our sport, and crashes do happen.

I’ve heard opinions from everybody about how it could have been prevented. What it comes down to is that two guys were trying to occupy the same space at the same time and wound up going down very hard. It was a scary crash - it affected a lot of people in addition to the two riders.

What I would like to talk about is how Feld Motorsports, the AMA, track personnel, and the Asterisk medical crew handled the whole situation.

NASCAR-CUP: Kurt Busch seeks to win again in Texas

Sibling Rivalry Takes Backseat to Singular Goal at Texas

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (April 10, 2012) – Anyone with a brother or sister can attest to the lifelong competition that exists between siblings. That competition usually involves the battle for parental attention. The spotlight on sibling rivalry is never brighter than it is in sports. Examples are easy to find, from tennis to football to baseball to auto racing.

Tennis has the very popular and equally decorated sisters in Venus and Serena Williams. Serena owns more grand slam singles titles at 13, but Venus has won more overall singles titles at 43 to her sister’s overall total of 37. Equally popular and accomplished are the NFL’s Manning brothers – Eli and Peyton. Eli has the advantage in Super Bowl titles, having won two, including the most recent Super Bowl outing in February, while Peyton has only one championship. When it comes to the NFL’s Most Valuable Player award, there’s no contest as Peyton has claimed the honor four times while Eli is still searching for his first. And, with Peyton’s new contract to play for the AFC’s Denver Broncos while Eli Manning continues to be the signal caller for the NFC’s New York Giants, there is always a chance we could see a Manning vs. Manning Super Bowl in the near future.

NASCAR has had many sets of competing siblings throughout its 60-plus years of existence. Sibling rivalries have existed with Richard and Maurice Petty, Bobby and Donnie Allison, and Terry and Bobby Labonte. The sport’s current and most active sibling rivalry is that of brothers Kurt and Kyle Busch. The Busch brothers compete against each other on a weekly basis every season. Kurt has won a championship – scoring the 2004 Sprint Cup title – and has a slight edge in the career win column with 24 Sprint Cup Series wins to younger brother Kyle’s 23. But Kyle, who has competed in the Nationwide and Camping World Truck series on a regular basis, has more than 100 wins in NASCAR’s top three touring series.

This weekend’s Samsung Mobile 500 Sprint Cup race at Texas Motor Speedway is the next venue for the continuance of the Busch brothers’ sibling rivalry. Kurt arrives at the 1.5-mile Texas track as a former winner, having visited victory lane during the track’s November race in 2009. He started that race third and led 89 laps en route to the win. In 18 career starts at Texas, Kurt has finished in the top-10 a total of 11 times for a top-10 finish percentage of 61.1 percent.

The Busch brother sibling rivalry will start a new chapter this weekend as, for the first time, they’ll be playing for the same team. Prior to driving the No. 51 Phoenix Construction Services Chevrolet in Saturday night’s Sprint Cup race, Kurt will drive the No. 54 Monster Energy car in Friday night’s O’Reilly Auto Parts 300 Nationwide Series race on behalf of his brother’s Kyle Busch Motorsports team. This weekend’s Nationwide race is the first of many in which Kurt will compete for Kyle Busch Motorsports.

The elder Busch brother goes into Friday night’s Nationwide Series race as a three-time winner in only 13 starts in the series, including a win in his very first race. That came in the April 2006 event at Texas, when he led the final 70 laps to secure the victory after starting seventh. Busch has one other Nationwide Series start at Texas and that was during the April 2007 race when he scored an eighth-place finish after starting 18th.

While Saturday night’s 500-mile Sprint Cup race is considered to be the weekend’s main event, Friday night’s 300-mile Nationwide race commemorates the first of many in which the focus of the Busch brothers’ rivalry is the like-minded goal of winning – together.

KURT BUSCH, Driver of the No. 51 Phoenix Construction Services Chevrolet for Phoenix Racing:

What are your thoughts about racing at Texas?

“Texas has always been good to me and a track at which I’ve typically run well. I like it a lot. It’s the kind of track that, when it’s cool and crisp out, the place is just bad fast. If the sun comes out and the temperature is into the 80s, it gets slick. When that happens, that setup you just went 195 mph with, you can barely get 188 mph out of it. It’s a pretty temperamental place. You know it fits right along with the sister tracks like Atlanta, Charlotte and Las Vegas. They’re very temperature-sensitive tracks and Texas fits right in. I think the other thing you run into at Texas, for whatever reason, is that it’s very easy to miss the setup there. If you miss it, then it’s a struggle all weekend. On the other hand, if you hit it just right, then you are a tough car to beat.”

What is the toughest part about racing at Texas?

“I would say the exit of turn four is the toughest part to negotiate. There are times when the setup on the car is just right and you can drive right off the turn and put down good traction. Then there are other times – maybe when you miss the setup by even a little bit – that you are literally sideways and you’re basically wrecking at 180 mph.”

This is the first weekend in which you’ll be driving in the Nationwide series for your brother. What can we expect there?

“We’ve been talking about it since the start of the season, which feels like it just happened yesterday, so time is definitely flying. I think it’ll be interesting. We’ve been competitors for so long, now, that it’s nice to be doing this deal here with the Monster Energy car together. They’ve had a lot of bad luck to start the season, so they’re not quite where they want to be as far as the car owner’s championship battle. I am hoping we can go in there and turn some of that around. We tested Nashville last week to try to work some things out so I really just want to go in and get the best finish I can to help them climb back into the points battle.”

You made your first Nationwide start at Texas and won. How?

“This may sound strange, but there is this kind of unique homecoming feel. I did make my first Nationwide start at Texas. It was in 2006 after I had been in the Cup series for a number of years, which is a little different, but it was still pretty cool to make that first start and win it. I’ve actually only made 13 starts in the series, so it would be pretty remarkable to go there six years later and contend for the win. It would kind of feel just like that first time all over again.”

Feeling good after the off-week?

“It wasn’t completely off for me. I tested for Kyle’s team in Nashville last week for a couple of days, but we had a lot of fun in-between that test. We went to New Orleans and watched the (NCAA men’s basketball) championship game between Kentucky and Kansas, then spent some time in (Washington) D.C., doing a few things – went to a Capitals game which was great. It was a good break.”

Behind the scenes: Team USA for 2010 Motocross of Nations - together for the first time

I was back out at Pala Raceway for something very special. I had already been there for four days for the Finale of the 2010 AMA MX season and the Awards Banquet.

But, as I mentioned, this was something special - the first official get together of Team USA for the 2010 Motocross of Nations. Team Manager Roger De Coster, racers Ryan Dungey, Andrew Short, Trey Canard, and all the support staff needed for an effort like this.

Ryan Dungey, Roger De Coster, Trey Canard, Andrew Short and Mitch Payton

I felt very privileged to be invited to such an event. I soon came to realize that the most unique and moving part of the day was seeing the look of real happiness, the feeling of true honor, and the comraderie for each person involved, as 'The Team' came together for the first time. It was contagious. They seem to be a real 'team' already, working together well, and have great things to say about each other. Again, it was contagious!

Report: Nissan renews talk of sub-370Z sports car to take on Subaru BRZ

2013 Nissan 370Z - close to dead-on front view

Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S got you excited? Well, it appears the new Toyobaru twins might be moving the needle at other automakers, too. According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the pair may have challenged Nissan to once again reinvestigate its on-again, off-again plans for an affordable, lightweight sports coupe of its own. Nissan's Chief Creative Officer, Shiro Nakamura, says his employer is looking at downsizing its Z sports car, though it isn't clear if that would mean the Japanese automaker would field two separate Z models or just replace the current 370Z with a smaller, less costly model.

"I much prefer smaller sports car," Nakamura tells the Herald. "It is the time to look at that. With 370Z, we still don't know next generation will have a larger or smaller engine."

If Nissan were to reduce the size of the 370's powerplant, it would be the first time that model's displacement has dropped. Since the Z gets its model designation from the size of its engine (3.7 liter V6), Nissan could have a problem marketing a smaller Z called the 300Z, since the last time a new 300Z was sold in the States was way back in 1986.

More likely would be the revival of long-forgotten nameplates like 200SX or 240SX. Either would almost certainly be direct competition for the Subaru and Scion rear-drive coupes.

Nakamura reminded fans that even if the 370Z loses some cubic inches, Nissan will still have the young but already legendary GT-R. When asked if Nissan would be willing to support three sports cars, Nakamura says, "If there is a market, we will do it."
